Boycat Launches BuycatVPN, a Spyware-Free VPN Promising Full Anonymity
Boycat, the app and browser extension that helps users boycott unethical brands and find ethical alternatives, has launched BuycatVPN, a secure, spyware-free virtual private network. The service is aimed at users seeking protection from surveillance capitalism and opaque corporate practices.
Founder Adil Abbuthalha announced the launch on social media, noting that Boycat’s first step was providing consumers with information on products and brands to boycott. “The next step is the alternative ecosystem. We want to offer alternatives, highlight them, and reach millions of people,” he said.
Abbuthalha described BuycatVPN as the first in a line of such alternatives. “What better way than protecting you online—from securing your data to avoiding censorship and keeping you safe? We’re competing with the giants, with more features on the way. Everyone needs a VPN, especially in today’s climate where protecting yourself online is essential,” he said.
Unlike many VPN services with unclear ownership or government ties, BuycatVPN pledges zero spyware, no hidden funding, and a strong commitment to consumer protection. The company says it guarantees full anonymity, with no access to user activity.
Abbuthalha, a Yemeni-Sri Lankan technologist, founded Boycat in response to the genocide in Gaza. In just two years, he has built a global user base of more than 2 million, redirecting over $250 million in consumer spending from brands linked to rights abuses toward ethical companies.
Abbuthalha, who continued developing Boycat despite job loss, harassment, and repeated threats, said BuycatVPN is part of a broader vision for “ethical infrastructure” to protect both activists and everyday users.
BuycatVPN is now available for macOS, Windows, iOS, and Android.
