IsDB Approves Nearly US$1.27 Billion to Drive Sustainable Development Across 12 Member Countries
The Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) has greenlit a major financing package totalling almost US$1.27 billion, aimed at supporting sustainable development and resilient economies across 12 member countries in Asia, Africa, and the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
At its latest Board of Executive Directors meeting, chaired by IsDB President H.E. Dr Muhammad Al Jasser, the bank approved a diverse range of projects targeting sectors such as agriculture and food security, education, renewable energy, health, ICT, transport, water resources, and governance reforms.
Among the largest allocations, Pakistan will receive US$475 million to upgrade its national transport infrastructure through the M-6 motorway, a key project in the country’s development agenda. Uzbekistan has been granted US$192 million to modernise a vital road and stimulate tourism and investment in the Jizzakh region. Bangladesh will benefit from more than US$143 million aimed at expanding solar power generation and boosting local livelihoods.
Meanwhile, Türkiye secured a €140 million package for the Antalya–Alanya motorway, intending to ease congestion and support safer, low-emission transport. Nigeria is set to receive US$50 million to bolster climate-resilient agriculture and value chains in Yobe State. Uganda was approved for nearly US$37 million for facilities dedicated to oncology treatment and a further €73 million for local economic growth support.
Other notable projects include Senegal’s school meal program designed to connect smallholder farmers with new markets, Guinea’s new road infrastructure to facilitate agricultural trade, and Tunisia’s investments in water supply and irrigation expansion. Sierra Leone will receive assistance for cassava value chain development, targeting women, youth, and persons with disabilities. Support for digital transformation and e-government is heading to Comoros, while Mauritania will obtain funding to strengthen public procurement transparency and capacity.
IsDB also endorsed US$7 million for Tadamon 2.0, a community empowerment programme advancing digital literacy, healthcare, Islamic finance access, and civil society capacity across several member countries.
The projects underscore IsDB’s ongoing commitment to strengthening inclusive growth, supporting cleaner energy transitions, bolstering health and education, and fostering resilient livelihoods throughout its membership.
