Tarteel Launches QUL, a Centralized Digital Hub for Quranic Resources
Tarteel, known for its AI-driven Quran memorization app, has launched the Quranic Universal Library, or QUL, a new open-source platform designed to centralize and enhance access to high-quality Quranic resources. Tailored for developers, technologists, and innovators, QUL aims to inspire and support projects that serve the Muslim Ummah by simplifying access to essential Quranic content.
What Is QUL?
QUL is a comprehensive library that brings together Quranic text, translations, tafsir, recitations with word-by-word timestamps, Mushaf layouts, and more.
Built by the team at Tarteel, which leverages AI to enhance Quran memorization, the platform is designed to solve a common pain point for developers working on Islamic projects—finding and formatting high-quality Quranic resources. By centralizing these resources, QUL streamlines the development process, making it easier to build, test, and deploy new applications.
“We want to eliminate the logistical hurdles that hold back innovation in the Islamic tech space,” Tarteel’s team shared in a launch statement. “QUL levels the playing field for developers by making it simpler and faster to access the Quranic resources they need to go from idea to impact.”
Open Source and Community-Driven
In line with the open-source ethos, QUL is designed to be community-driven. It allows developers to contribute new data, make corrections, and enhance existing resources through a controlled approval system. Even the platform’s code is available on GitHub, inviting the global developer community to participate in its evolution. This collaborative approach ensures that QUL remains a living resource, continuously updated with contributions from its users.
Finding Quranic resources is often a scattered process, with different assets hosted on multiple websites and repositories. Tarteel says QUL brings everything under one roof, allowing issues in any resource to be quickly addressed, benefiting all users across the platform.
Each resource is sourced from reputable Islamic software projects and comes with audit logs, so developers know exactly what they’re working with. This commitment to transparency is crucial for scholarly work, app development, and AI-driven projects that require consistent, accurate data.
QUL offers resources in standardized formats for various applications, whether it’s for building interactive Quranic experiences, training AI models, or conducting academic research. And while it includes a wide range of assets, it notably doesn’t include Tarteel’s proprietary audio datasets or AI models.
The platform is designed to inspire new kinds of projects. Imagine augmented reality experiences where users can explore Quranic verses in a 3D space, AI-powered chatbots providing Quranic guidance, or gamified platforms that help children learn and memorize the Quran in an engaging way. By consolidating high-quality resources and making them accessible, QUL enables these projects and more.
QUL is available now, and you can check out the project here.
