Mihrab App: Covering the Essentials for Daily Islamic Practice

Mihrab is a free Islamic app from Chennai-based Meritlife Technologies that covers prayer times, Quran, hadith, dhikr, fasting tracking, and a few features specific to the Indian Muslim context. It is available in English, Tamil, Bengali, and Malayalam.

Prayer Times & Salah

Prayer times are calculated based on your GPS location and work reliably. Mihrab offers both early Asr (Shafi'i) and late Asr (Hanafi) calculation options, which is a practical inclusion for the Indian context where both are commonly followed. Adhan notifications, Jummah reminders, and a Qibla finder are all included.

The Salah Tracker lets you log each prayer so you can monitor your consistency over time. It is a straightforward feature, you mark each salah done or missed, and it works as expected.

Quran

The Quran reader supports both text and audio recitation, with multiple qaris and mushaf styles available. A Daily Ayah notification pushes a verse to you each day. The reading experience is functional, though it does not stand out significantly from dedicated Quran apps like Quran.com. One user complaint on the App Store worth noting: there is no way to mark how far you have read, which makes it harder to track progress.

Hadith

The app includes full access to all major hadith collections not just curated snippets so you can read complete books. A Daily Hadith notification is also available. For users who want to read hadith in depth rather than receive daily highlights, having the full books accessible in one app is useful.

Duas & Adhkar

Morning and evening adhkar are included, along with a comprehensive collection of daily duas organised by occasion. A Daily Dua feature is also there. The categorisation is clear and easy to navigate.

Fasting Tracker

The fasting tracker covers both Sunnah fasts (Mondays, Thursdays, White Days, and so on) and Nafl fasting. You can log fasts and track them over time. Most competing Islamic apps skip this entirely.

Masajid Nearby & Business Directory

Mihrab uses your location to surface nearby masajid, useful when travelling or in an unfamiliar area. Mosque admins can also register their masjid and push salah times and announcements through the app. There is also a local Muslim business directory for finding Muslim-owned businesses nearby. The usefulness of both features will depend on how well populated they are in your city.

Audio Content

The app includes sections for Islamic audiobooks, podcasts, and nasheeds under what the app calls Mihrab FM. The selection is reasonable if you prefer audio content.

Mihrab is available on both Android and iOS. It covers the daily essentials well and adds features full hadith library, fasting tracker, multilingual support, masjid connect, and a business directory. It is not going to replace dedicated Quran apps or hadith platforms, but as a daily companion app it does what it promises.
